Feeling, truly engaged & informed!
From Currency, Symposiums, and Golf Swings to documentaries, business and Future Horizons
Another week, another update with yours truly, tinashemillicent.
As most of you may know, the Russian vault was opened, and it reviewed paintings of biblical figures who were all men of colour – black people. I remember my sister saying in the bible, someone’s hair was described as soft and coiled like wool so yes, maybe biblical figures were black. It’s been a topic for years now and sadly it wasn’t a topic I followed because, well, I wasn’t interested in the race, but I admit that it is insightful and keeps me on my toes.
A documentary Quiet On Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV was released a while ago and it tells of the sexual abuse that the Nickelodeon Child stars endured. We have Drake Bell, Amanda, and a lot more that have always stated this. Watching some clips and the documentary made me realise how telling they were. I guess it’s a young mind that saw no wrong & no sexually implicit scenes and just saw everything as being funny. But then again, my adult mind will comprehend other things in a way that they are not. I suggest you watch the documentary.
Whats interesting that I have learned in the tech world? Apple being sued by the US Government for monopolizing the market? Well, its interesting but their market strategies and how they make their tech standalone deserves good praise but what do you think? Read more on CNN. It might honestly take a few years.
Now, something local. We have a new currency ZiG, which is being backed up by 100mil USD in cash and over 2.5 thousand kgs of gold – over 180mil (forgive me if my information stats are off). I am not a person that truly grasps such, not because I don’t want to but simply because my mind is not able to comprehend this, so my input is barely worth noting on this matter. Its all in a bid to have a stabilized currency.
I attended the Monetary policy Review and Economic & Business Outlook symposium hosted by CZI on the 11th of April. Based on the title, you already know what it was about – the new currency and its implications on business. The RBZ Governor, Hon. J Mushayavanhu, was in attendance, shedding light on what to expect and how to deal with this change. I am afraid, I didn’t grasp anything new (though I wasn’t in the hall half of the time). What I took from it all though, was the chance to network. A lot of big names from the private business sector were in attendance and I found myself looking them up on my phone and starting conversations based on the reads I got. That was a highlight for the week.
The following day on the Friday, the place I work at hosted a charity golf day. My father played golf. He loved it! He always said he would teach me when I got a bit older but well that won’t happen. I got to Chapman and at some point, I got a few swinging lessons, and it was so interesting! I have always been drawn to golf so its not a surprise I am keen on it, but I will take it slow because it is an expensive sport and its something I cannot afford as a luxury sport right now. Again, this was a good networking opportunity.
Now, lets talk year two before I sign off. I got carried away. For my new audience, my 2024 is divided into 12 week years for better productivity and ease of tracking goals. Year One just ended and Year two is for a determined Millicent. Year One was experimental and unserious. Year two, I want to show something for it. Mynd is there, networking, my Faith, attending events, social media presence, my learners, my art – try to monetize it, articles, and books, fostering relationships, write more articles and all the details will be shared for year two which starts today. So yes, we are already in year two, week 1! This year will end on July 6th so let’s buckle up and get serious. Last week was reflection.
Hope you guys enjoyed this read as much I enjoyed writing it!
Until next time,
